Friends' Blogs & Links
Mood: a-ok
Now Playing: Mellow Yellow
Topic: Daily Doings

RIGHTY-HO FOLKS; I've just spent ages tinkering with that huge list of links you see to your right. A huge, yet in many ways barely started list of links. Because I'm planning to develop a comprehensive library of the absolute best links for druggie addiction and related topics. Which will take quite some time. BTW if anyone knows a good drugs info website not there, would you please be so kind as to tell me? Also one question: what's the American national antidrugs info society (there must be at least one) called? Or is it the one I've already got up there: the Thingie for a DrugFree America? or the National Institute of Drug Abuse? Isn't there any other one? Ours is called Frank (The National Drugs Helpline). Now I have googled this without the success I'd hoped for, but I'm looking for national equivalents to this accross the English-speaking world.

So if you know a link (or just the name of a famous drug help agency or drug info network, Comments please! And don't worry about stating the obvious. If I've not listed it, I don't know it.

Re the blogs I've resorted and categorized. Yes I know a few of yous might laugh at being called "normal"...! But you are normal compared to me.

Basically the new categories go • Druggie and using (like me (ie Chipper)) • Druggie past; trying to stop or successfully stopped • Normal people's blog-journals • News-oriented blogs (Power&Control) ... & lastly • Wonderblogs; these are ones that aim to bring a little magic into your life. Not personal diaries so much as ideas resources, plumpiemousian dreams, ginger cats' purrings, etc...

The blogs listed are the ones I'm reading. I hope you have fun with them too.

Gledwood

Yeah, I think the biggest and most prominent anti-drug NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) in the States would have to be the www.drugfreeamerica.org" target="_blank">Partnership for a Drug-Free America. You can read about it on Wikipedia as well. The US government's bloated anti-drug bureaucracy is the www.usdoj.gov/dea" target="_blank">Drug Enforcement Administration, or DEA.

It's next day now... I just had a look at and pasted up that DEA site. It is very entertaining. Like something out of a comic book..! I'm going to post something on my views on American law quite soon. To us Europeans it seems utterly draconian, seriously!!

THANKS FOR THE BLOGSPOT REPLIES. Hope I wasn't too offputting with my ranting. Sometimes I spend quite a long time pondering what I'm going to say... only for said comment to have to go unposted... that does drive me up the wall!!!

Believe me it's a right pain BEING a blogspot blogger; there have been sooooo many problems.

Take care

Rx

Yep, I think you said it all, Ruth!

When I'd decided to do this blog (bear in mind I'm someone who's very lazy, but when I do make up my mind to do something nothing gets in my way, does that make any sense?) so I thought, Who's best known - ie who will best promote my blog? Ah! Google! (How naïve was I then??!) So I googled, 'google blog' and got to blogspot. Went through fairly lengthy registry process. Even put in a short blog entry.

Then when I try to log back in... can't do it.

They repeatedly asked for a username I hadn't given.

Eventually (and this was at long last, maybe an hour later during which time I'd smoked about 12 cigarettes and hit the ceiling) a help page told me my username was the email address I'd given.

To cut a long story short, google blogspot let me open THREE blogs using the SAME username and password (totally not knowing; it's their fault not mine). NONE of these blogs would subsequently log in. Oh I tell a lie. I ONCE got into ONE of them. And most annoyingly of all this was using up the treasured domain names I really wanted, because once I'd attempted blog one with one name obviously blog 2 had to be called something different.

That's what put me off blogspot right from the beginning. So I "know your pain", folks!

Name: "Holly Blue"

Morning Gledwood....is that your real name by the way? It's very unusal. Holly isn't mine...I had the same bloody problem as you...had a great blog name but it all got mucked up while I was setting it up and I ended up picking HBE which I don't like at all...I just wanted Holly Blue because of the butterfly with that name which I love, but someone else had that so I just stuck eyes on the end of it!!......nem mind...I'd like to change it but I'm stuck with it now.

I visited that Antartica site you mentioned....wow it is fantastic isn't it. The photographs are amazing, the natural beauty in this world never fails to impress and excite me. Thanks for telling me about it.

How are you Gled...I continue to be lost for words as I read about what you go through being an addict. I feel for you... From reading your blog I am begining to understand what it is like to be so addicted... I find it horrifying and upsetting.

Do you ever see a day when you will be clean Gled? Or are you resigned to this.

I personally know two people, a father and a daughter who were both addicts and managed to turn their lives around. (She sang at my wedding and he was invoved in the service.) They went to a place called Yeldall.....I don't know if you are familiar with it. I know they have a lot of success there. I'll give you the link to their site, it's not completely up and running but there is some information there for you to get a good idea about the place. the address is www.yeldall.org.uk .

I have known about this place since Iwas a child, and knowing about it's fantastic reputation... I just feel it would be wrong of me not to mention it to you....I hope you don't mind. I'll just shut up and keep my nose out if you want me to, but I feel I want to help you, and I don't know what else I can do. It is very difficult knowing there is a good soul out there not living the life that was intended for him ....you deserve more than this...well that's what I think anyway.

I'n my thoughts Gled.... ;)

Hi HollyBlue... I'm okay. Apart from getting very wound up by commentboxes yesterday! I had something very important (well, I thought so) to say and I'm denied the opportunity to say it. I've had a Google account for ages (don't understand quite what that means, but hey). Tried to log in. It claimed my password was wrong. Which is difficult to believe as I'd purposefully written it down in my diary... you know what it's like with computers and passwords you HAVE to be very organized. Yeah, so all that wound me up. And as I say you have my sympathy on losing a nice name, isn't that annoying. What's wrong with Holly Blue though? I think it's rather nice.

Gledwood isn't my real name, it's an amalgam of names...

I'm glad you liked Antarctica. I found it via Plumpiemousie... you can find some amazing links via other people's blogs, know what I mean? I went via that Norfolk bloke, he seems to know loads of those people who've been on the radio etc bc their blogs are so famous (My Boyfriend's a Twat, Belle de Jour, the English lady in Paris who got sacked for talking about her boss online...)

Am I resigned to a lifetime of addiction?

Well, for over two years I seriously told myself (and seriously believed this) that I was stopping "tomorrow". Or if not tomorrow then "next week". I detoxed at my parents' house... cold turkey and they didn't know what was wrong till finally on day three I gave in and confessed... absolutely chaos. I shall post that story properly one day (soon, I promise. It's one that takes some thinking thru for the telling, know what I mean?)

That was in 2001. In 2003 I went into "rehabby"-type places twice. But I just was NOT ready to stop. I ran out the door within a matter of a few days. I was way too much headoverheels in love with the heroin to stop. Seriously.

More recently I've told myself "I'm going on doing this forever."

Which is healthier in a way. No self-deception.

But I do see things changing and my mind changing in the future. I'm just past saying I'm going to be clean because it's what I'm kind of expected to say (I'm so young and talented and have so much to offer the world blah blah -- I've heard so much of that. THAT, believe me is NOT a valid enough reason to make me want to stop. I've felt the tide change internally before. I had a windfall of money and did so much drugs I felt genuinely sick of them. So if that feeling comes back (& I sense it somehow will) then yes I shall stop. I've not heard of the facility you mentioned, though...

Meanwhile I'm doing FAR better than I was say 2 years ago. I'm keeping okay. And I'm not deceiving myself by saying what people would like to hear me say...

That's about as far as it goes...

Gledwood

xx

PS Thanks for that link: I shall add it to my collection.

Boy do I know what you mean! When I was on Blogspot some time ago I was tearing my hair out regularly, simply trying to submit entries or make minor changes!!!

I've been blogging since January 2003, and have had blogs hosted by several blog providers: Blogspot, Blogdrive, Mosaicglobe, MySpace, Yahoo!360, etc., and have also thought about getting a domain name and hosting it myself by using MoveableType software. They all have problems; none of them are perfect. But in my opinion, the one that strikes the best balance of uptime, loading speed, ease of use, features and functionality is Blogdrive. That's why I decided that my newest blog Playing with Fire would be hosted there. Blogdrive is also a close-knit community, and it's probably the most personal and the easiest to get help when having problems.

Annoying Blogs that Won't Take My Comments (does anyone agree with this?)
Mood: irritated
Now Playing: I'm not playing. I'm throwing a tantrum.
Topic: Daily Doings

IT HAS JUST TAKEN ME LITERALLY 20 MINUTES to leave a simple comment on a "no anonymous comments" blogspot blog.

Some of you google blogspot bloggers need to bear in mind by not allowing anonymous comments you're closing your blog off to the entire outside world EXCEPT people who blog with your service provider... I know loads of people on blogspot who accept (a) google (b) other (c) anonymous. Will it really hurt you to allow this?

If someone leaves an objectionable comment on mine I can easily delete it. If I get left loads of them, I can moderate before they are published. You have these options too.

I've attempted to open so many google/blogspot accounts they mess up my passwords and identities all the time (I write them down so I know who's at fault).

Look I'm not trying to have a personal go at anyone. And I'm not even just talking to one or two people. This has happened to me loads of times. It is really frustrating. Trust!

Come on. Sort it out. I beg you!

Comments/remarks/opinions/info, please!

Tripod Help Please!

Saturday, 30 December 2006
HELP!!!Mood: irritatedNow Playing: extremely irritatedly, as I just said.Topic: miscellaneous
PLEASE HELP ME!!
I know someone out there can.
All I want to do is install a hit-counter on this blog, so I'll have some idea of how many folks come tiptoeing across my innermost confessions...
I've found the hit counter. I know how to highlight, ctrl+C to pick up then ctrl+V to set down again.
I opened my html editor. I was unable to scroll through loads of crap as only one paragraph of was showing.
Please, does anyone know where I'm meant to paste the technical code? How do I do this? Someone must know. Loads of you lot have counters on your blogs. You must at least know someone else you can collar — please force them to answer me!
Or if you cannot answer yourself, tell me where I can go on the net to find out...
Many thanks.
PS What do you think of the new darker, less-glary blue? Answers below, please...

Not quite sure what you're doing as there is no html editor for the blogs. There are only advanced customization templates. Counter code would go on the main page layout template (index.btpl).
A good place to put it might be under the side panel link components code if the counter isn't too wide or you may stretch out the side panel link and cover up some of the text in your entries. You could also place it at the bottom of the page under the entries. You'll probably want to place a line break
before the code for the counter or include the counter in a "div"[in spiky brackets] so it starts on a new line.
Since blog pages are dynamically generated from basic templates, the counter will appear on all your blog "pages" and will probably increment with every page view. That's not going to give you a lot of info unless the counter sets cookies and can remember visitors for an entire session so they are only counted once/ session. A basic hit counter won't be of much use there.

Hi GledwoodRe the Neoworks counter; I'm with Blogger Beta and can click on edit template and in the side bar area click on New Element; this gives a range of choices like add picture, add site feed etc. One of them says HTML/Java script and I just paste the code into that. Hopefully Lycos have something similar. Remember if your using neo2 that you need to paste in 2 codes, the first is just the tracking device, the second is the actual counter. Good LuckHope the New Year brings a better and brighter futureLoveRuthxp.s. Did try to answer on your blog but it didn't let me sublit my comment. Ruth if you see the above and wonder how it got there (!!!) I transferred it myself from yours so I can keep all advice in one place...
... hoping it shall make some sense to me...
... I did try this templates thing but the only templates I found were the ones like the meditating man in the corner who incidentally looks just like me...
... do I go into the html editor to find these templates?... supposedly no html editor for blogs, but how come I have one?
I really don't get this. There's some missing piece of info I ought to have... I will keep this info safe then when things make a little more sense to me hopefully all shall come in useful.

HI, I found this for you through yahoo search..I the counter you have a tripod one or an independent one..not that it makes any difference..just that the Tripod one will probably fit perfectly and you won't have to worry about changing the size to fit your blog. Usually counter's sit in your sidebar somewhere...or at the bottom of your main page templete. Do you have access to your sidebar? If so where ever you see HTML code is where you want to place your code..just stay outside of code that begins and ends in these arrows:
and you should be okay. Or you could copy and paste your main page code into an email for me and I'll look at it..will try and find a place to put your counter code. No matter what you do though..save the original HTML code first (in word or something) by copy and paste..in case something goes wrong you will have the original HTML. Then experiment. It looks more confusing than it really is. Good luck and Happy New Year to you.
Here's the post I found:
MEMBERSHIP QUESTION OF THE WEEK Get the inside dirt on some of the questions most frequently fielded by our dedicated membership department!

This code will produce the actual counter. You can place text around it if you wish. Currently, you cannot manually change the number displayed on your counter. You can, however, change the color, by adding the following code: ?RRGGBB. Example: . The six digits following the question mark are standard hexadecimal color code. In the example above, "000000" is the code for black.

Thanks for that. I'm going to have a renewed try at all that stuff tomorrow... all information is appreciated.
I'll tell you what gets me... in this age of "Windows", we're expected to comprehend such html gobbledygook... it's no simpler than the old "Basic" our ZX Spectrum came preloaded with... only I had some grasp of that. This modern stuff is a complete mystery to me!
